About
It is well known that a wedding is, in principal, the celebration of the communion between two human beings. This grand festivity is conceived in many different ways, in each country, religious environment, and community.
When imagining a wedding, most of us recall the happy endings of soap-operas or those of romances, in which the main characters get married at the end: the beautiful and happy bride, wearing a wonderful dress with a veil, the vows made and the exchange of the rings and tossing the bouquet; this is how a modern wedding looks like in the collective imagination.
It is said that in the day of her wedding, the bride is the most beautiful person in that ceremony. She is, of course, wearing a white dress that meant purity in the 18th century; the veil underlined the fact that the woman getting married was a virgin. In our days, these aspects are certainly not important, because most of the brides wearing a white veil aren`t still virgins, but the tradition must be maintained. Some of our modern women tend to be unique and leave behind the classical white for their dresses.
Organizing such an event needs time and money. Who could have thought that in the past, in the 17th or 18th century, poor people made their wedding, in a much simpler way, without a priest and vows or rings, easily passing over a broomstick and that`s how they became husband and wife?!
To plan a wedding, nowadays one must be willing to spend big quantities of money and the wedding will look like one ripped from a fairy tale, and the couple`s involvement isn`t necessary! People lacking of time and with a nice budget can be thankful to the wedding planner; for those less fortunate, this personage isn`t reachable, so they must try to occupy their free time by organizing their own wedding, which isn`t a fashionable thing in our times.
Another important element of this festivity is the ring; during the ceremony the future married couple exchange rings. The origin of this gesture of exchanging rings isn`t really known, this accessory is a symbol of eternal love and perfection, its shape gives this special feature.
One thing surely mustn`t be absent from the wedding is the cake! This product is usually cut by the couple when the ceremony ends, and more themes appear for this sweet, usually the bride and the groom prefer a mini-version of them on the top of the big cake, surely our ancestors didn`t have this significant piece at their simple ceremonies.
And what can be the nicest thing at the end of a beautiful ceremony, the most important day in a couple`s life? After many moments of happiness, with exchanging rings, vows given to each other: an endless dance on a beautiful song, the songs used are believed to be memorable … that`s how a modern wedding ceremony takes place in our days!
